The Life Story Framework is…

A powerful self-discovery tool, and a new way of looking at your life that gives you the insight and perspective you need to be able to explore new directions that you genuinely enjoy; to create the experiences you want.

It will help you…

  • Get clear on your inner story
  • Understand where you are in the unfolding of your story
  • Uncover your purpose, and
  • Become the author of your own life

It will show you…

  • Where you’ve been (Act 1: Formative Experiences)
  • How that led you to where you are, and (Act 2: Turning Points)
  • Where you can go from here. (Act 3: Character Arcs)

How I use this Framework…

For Myself: I’ve used this framework to deeply understand and transform my own life many times over. It is one of the foundational tools in my transformative toolbox (along with Emotional Awareness).

For My Clients: I’ve used it to help many of my clients take giant steps toward becoming the leaders they secretly hoped they could be–making a difference in the world as their True Selves. It forms the foundation for my popular Life Purpose Roadmap Package (which outlines your motivators, superpowers, kryptonite, tools and best audience); this map leads you to your highest potential. It also allows me to show my clients where they are in their life journey, and the possibilities open to them now. It provides structure for the intuitive information I receive (I’m an empath/channel).

Did you create this framework?

It would be more accurate to say I founded a new adaption of an ancient framework—the 3-Act Play structure first mentioned by Aristotle, then developed by Syd Field.

As a long-time professional writer and editor, I have studied many story frameworks (i.e. The 12-Stage Hero’s Journey, the 7-Act Screenplay, the 3-Act Structure etc.). I used these structures to help me write feature articles—with my most epic being my very first, a 5,000-word profile of CBC Radio’s Michael Enright, which won an award. I also used them to write my travel memoir (a journey of self-actualization): Help Me, Asia. Finally, I taught these structures to students as a college instructor (magazine feature writing).

I call my adaptation “The Life Story Framework”. Rather than using it to write stories, I use it as a self-discovery tool to help people understand their own story–who they are, why, and where they can go from here. I also use it as a tool to help people depersonalize their life story–to “zoom out” into the role of “Author” rather than being lost within the limiting confines of the “Character” role. I apply the overall play structure…

  • (1) Set up (the setting you were born into & formative experiences)
  • (2) Confrontation/obstacle (what I call “Turning Points”)
  • (3) Resolution/climax (my work focuses on “Character Arcs”)

…as a framework to help you understand the narrative of your Character’s life; how you ended up where you are now, and how you can move forward out of this experience toward whatever you want to experience next.
